I Love Being an Arthritis Advocate—and You Can Be One Too!

There’s nothing quite like the feeling of making a difference. As an advocate and facilitator of a couple arthritis connect groups, I’ve seen firsthand how our voices can impact change. And the best part? You can be a part of this, too! You can run a group, or be a co facilitator.

If you like more political action sign up to be an arthritis advocate.

I love the groups , we talk about general things to having subject matter experts on.

But I genuinely enjoy reaching out to everyone—from local officials like the mayor to the highest levels of government, including POTUS—and all the elected representatives in between. These individuals are crucial in helping secure research funding, passing important bills, and shaping drug laws that directly affect people living with arthritis. Without their support, advancing treatments and reducing costs wouldn’t be possible.

The Arthritis Foundation is at the forefront of advocacy, working tirelessly at both the state and federal levels to improve the lives of those affected by arthritis. Their efforts focus on:

  • Improving Access to Care: Addressing barriers like step therapy and prior authorization.
  • Making Treatment and Research Easier: Supporting ongoing research and access to innovative treatments.
  • Shifting Policy and Public Perception: Educating lawmakers and raising awareness about arthritis.
  • Reducing Out-of-Pocket Costs: Advocating for policies that lower co-pays and support treatment options like biomarker testing.

How Does the Arthritis Foundation Advocate?
They collaborate with legislators, mobilize grassroots advocates, and build relationships with officials to make real change. Their key initiatives include bills like the Safe Step Act, aimed at reforming step therapy; the Help Ensure Lower Patient Copays Act, to make medications affordable; and programs to support training more rheumatologists.
