How Do You Unwind After a Demanding Day?
Let’s be honest… most days are demanding when you live with chronic pain. There isn’t always a clear “on” and “off” switch. Pain doesn’t clock out at 5 PM. It lingers, it nags, and some days it flat-out takes over.
I’m considered disabled—but here’s the thing—I don’t always look it. And that can be misleading to people on the outside. What they don’t see are the joints that ache with every step, the stiffness, the unpredictability. The exhaustion from living with pain for so long.
Some days I walk just fine. Other days? Let’s just say I’m somewhere between The Penguin from Batman and Chester from Gunsmoke. Not exactly graceful—but hey, we keep moving.
I stared a few years ago working part-time from home, and I’m grateful for that. But I’d be lying if I said I didn’t miss my career in opticianry. That was something I truly enjoyed, and chronic pain has a way of changing your path whether you’re ready or not.
So how do I unwind?
Honestly… I keep it simple.
I turn the TV off.
Silence is underrated.
I’ll make myself a cup of tea—or if I’m feeling a little fancy, go grab a mocha frappé (hold the whip and the drizzle… we’re not going overboard here).
And then I listen.
Not to noise—but to something that feeds my soul.
I tune into The Word Orlando—AM 990, FM 101.5, or on iHeartRadio. There’s something calming about it. Uplifting. Grounding. It reminds me that even on the hardest days, I’m not alone.
It’s more than just unwinding—it’s reconnecting.
With peace.
With purpose.
With God.
Because at the end of a long, demanding day—especially one filled with pain—you don’t just need rest… you need restoration.
And sometimes, that looks like quiet, a warm drink, and a little faith carrying you through.
