What’s One Thing You Know Now That Would Have Saved Your Younger Self a Lot of Pain?
I wish I had understood sooner that jealousy is not flattering, and it is not proof of love. When someone constantly acts jealous it’s not love it’s fear, lack of self esteem on their part and a form of control They question you, limit your freedom, isolates you from others, or makes you feel afraid, that is control. They even say you can’t do this right, or you can’t do that right. Or they list all the things that bother them about you vs love you and support you
All that behavior is
NOT LOVE
ITS ABUSE
In my first marriage, that control became verbal, physical, emotional, and financial abuse. Looking back, I realize that many people saw what was happening before I was ready to see it myself.
I wish I had never married my first husband, but I will never regret having my daughter. She is one of the greatest blessings in my life, even though that chapter was deeply painful.
If you recognize yourself in this story, please know that you are not alone, and the abuse is not your fault. You deserve safety, respect, support, and a life free from fear. Reaching out to someone you trust or a local domestic violence organization can be an important first step.
There is a way out…..
