Hello, lovelies!

It’s your favorite bone and joint blogger with some exciting news—especially for those on Medicare who qualify! 🎉

If you’ve been interested in GLP-1 medications but the price tag has made your wallet want to run and hide, there’s some good news on the horizon.

Beginning July 1, 2026, eligible Medicare beneficiaries enrolled in Medicare Part D may be able to receive certain GLP-1 medications for just $50 per month through a new program called the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge. This demonstration program will run through December 31, 2027.

GLP-1 medications have become an important option for many people living with obesity and other weight-related health conditions. For many, they can improve overall health, mobility, blood sugar control, and quality of life. As someone who writes about bones, joints, and living with chronic pain, I know that carrying less weight can sometimes mean putting less stress on aching joints. While these medications aren’t right for everyone, they may be a helpful tool for some.

Before you start celebrating with an extra slice of cheesecake… remember that eligibility requirements still apply! 😊 The best first step is to schedule an appointment with your doctor to discuss whether a GLP-1 medication is appropriate for your individual health needs.

According to CMS, this program is designed to make these innovative treatments more affordable, more predictable, and easier to access for qualifying Medicare beneficiaries. The goal is simple: help more Americans improve their long-term health without the overwhelming medication costs.

A few things to remember:
• The program begins July 1, 2026.
• Eligible Medicare Part D beneficiaries may pay $50 for a one-month supply of certain GLP-1 medications.
• Not everyone will qualify, so talk with your healthcare provider.
• Additional information will be released by CMS as the program rolls out.

This is certainly welcome news for many seniors who have been hoping these medications would become more affordable. I’ll continue sharing updates as more details become available.

As always, stay informed, stay active however you can, and keep taking care of those amazing bones and joints—you only get one skeleton, and replacement parts are expensive! 😉

Make sure you talk to you PCP to see if you are eligible
