Essential Oils -Spices & Tea For Pain

Essential oils have been used for thousands of years in various cultures for medicinal and health purposes. Essential oil uses range from aromatherapy, household cleaning products, personal beauty care and natural medicine treatments.

The particles in essential oils come from distilling or extracting the different parts of plants, including the flowers, leaves, bark, roots, resin and peels. In ancient times, Jews and Egyptians made essential oils by soaking the plants in oil and then filtering the oil through a linen cloth
Essential oil benefits come from their antioxidant, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties.

These healing oils are rapidly growing in popularity because they act as natural medicine without any side effects.
Wonderful smelling home: Diffuse clove, rosemary and orange essential oils when guests come over, and they will talk about how amazing your house smells.

Sore Muscles

Ingredients:

1/2 cup coconut oil.

1/4 cup grated beeswax.

2 teaspoon cayenne powder.

2 teaspoon ginger or turmeric powder (Note: While turmeric is an outstanding anti-inflammatory, be aware that it will cause some temporary skin discoloration)

10 drops peppermint essential oil.

10 drops lavender essential oil.

8 drops camphor oil

8 drops eucalyptus oil

glass jar.

Below are pictures with and without turmeric
Method

Melt the coconut oil and beeswax together. You can do this in the microwave, in a double boiler, or what I did was set a small saucepan on the stove for a minute or two and then turned the burner off and added the coconut oil and beeswax. Stir until melted.
Allow the mixture to cool for a few minutes, then add all your essential oils
Put in a container and allow to cool completely. When it is completely cooled it will be a solid rather than liquid…but the minute it hits your warm skin…it will liquify again. That’s what coconut oil does, which makes it perfect for massaging onto sore muscles and joints.

Here are more potent rubs

When you use your cream, really take the time to gently massage it into each aching joint. The little bit of stimulation helps get your circulation pumping and circulates blood through your joints.

This gets much needed oxygen and nutrients to them, which is especially good for osteoarthritis.

Don’t forget to wear gloves when handling super spicy stuff (especially the habanero)

*stop using if it causes too much irritation.

*Never use on broken skin

Always check with your Doctor before trying anything new.

I am writing on what helps me. And this not any type of medical advice.

Warning  These spices stain. Wear an apron !

If you don’t want the little bits of spices in there, follow the steps below to get a smooth infused oil to use in the cream (this makes it easier to get absorbed.)

Mix together your oil and spices for whichever recipe you choose to do.

Heat over medium heat in a double boiler for 15 minutes, and then remove it to cool and infuse for 30 minutes.

After 30 minutes, strain through a cheesecloth and reserve the infused oil.

After it is strained melt the beeswax in a double boiler, and pour in the infused oil.

Stir until blended thoroughly, and then follow the same steps for chilling, whipping, and storing as above.

Now for My Teas!

I love tea

And  turmeric tea is a serious drink, not for the faint of heart. And it does take some time to get used to it.

But I love it

And for me it works.

I make teas with loads of anti-inflammatory herbs to keep inflammation down and the immune system healthy.
I was sick of being in pain everyday and spending money on rubs , cremes & pre made teas, so I started making my own.

My Tea for Pain & Inflammation

2 cups water

2 teaspoons dried black tea leaves

1 inch ginger, peeled and grated

2 cardamom pods, lightly crushed

¼ teaspoon cinnamon

½ cup almond milk (or any other milk of your choice)

2 teaspoons honey

Boil the water, ginger, cinnamon, and cardamom for 10 minutes. Add the black tea leaves and simmer for another 1 to 2 minutes. Remove from heat and add the almond milk under constant stirring. Strain, sweeten with honey and enjoy!

Here’s My Turmeric Milk

This is my original turmeric milk recipe and it makes an excellent jumping off place if you’re just starting to experiment with turmeric in your beverages. This one is very simple and very effective. As you acquire a taste for turmeric you may find you can tolerate and enjoy increasing the amount of turmeric you use.

Golden Milk
GOLDEN MILK TURMERIC PASTE

Got inflammation? Have you heard about the awesome health benefits of turmeric?
It’s a spice that I try to add to my meals as often as possible. Not only is it a great anti inflammatory, it has also been shown to have powerful antioxidant and anti-cancer properties..

The many amazing health benefits of Turmeric include:
Anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, an

Powerful analgesic for inflammatory pain

PASTE:

My favorite way to use the turmeric paste is to add it to a little warmed homemade coconut or nut milk to make golden milk. Golden Milk is an immune boosting remedy that ancient cultures have used for years to benefit digestion and health. It is the perfect evening time cozy drink.

You can add as little or as much as you like, depending on your preference.
You can also use the paste to flavor stir fries, stews, soups, eggs, veggies, yogurt

GOLDEN MILK TURMERIC PASTE

SERVES: 2 CUPS

INGREDIENTS

1/4 tsp black pepper

1 tsp ginger powder

1/2 tsp cinnamon

1/2 tsp cardamom

1/8 tsp salt

½ cup turmeric powder (like this)

1 and ½ cups filtered water, plus ½ cup more

½ cup coconut oil (like this) and/or ghee (like this)

¼ cup raw honey, optional (like this)

DIRECTIONS

Combine pepper, ginger, cinnamon, cardamom, and salt in a small bowl. Set aside.

Combine turmeric and 1 and ½ cups of water in a small pot, stirring constantly with a wooden spoon. Bring mixture to a very gentle simmer and add another ½ cup of water. Continue to stir with wooden spoon.

Add mixed spices and continue to cook and stir on low for 3 minutes, until you have a thick and smooth paste.

Turn off heat and add fat of choice. Continue to stir until completely smooth. (I like to use half coconut and half ghee)

Add optional sweetener while mixture cools.

Transfer to clean glass jar. Mixture will thicken as it cools. Place lid on jar after mixture has completely cooled. Give a little shake to prevent separation and store in fridge for 2-3 weeks.

NOTES

The sweetener is totally optional. I think honey is the perfect addition to round out the flavors of this delicious paste. Feel free to omit it if you like. You can still make Golden Milk with it. Just add a titch of sweetener to your spiced milk.

This paste should stay good in the fridge for 2-3 weeks, especially if you use a clean spoon every time you dip into it. I also like to sterilize my jar before using it. To sterilize jar: Preheat oven to 200’F. Place clean glass jar, without lid, on oven shelf for 10 minutes. Turn off oven and put lid on jar and leave in oven to cool.

Turmeric Tea

Prep time: 5 Minutes
Cook time: 20 Minutes

Total time: 25 Minutes

Yield: 1 Serving

Anti-inflammatory Turmeric Tea

1 tsp cinnamon
pinch of clove

pinch of nutmeg

tsp fresh ginger

pinch of fresh ground black pepper

As much turmeric as you can handle! Start with a teaspoon and go up from there.

1-2 cups of water

Raw honey to sweeten

Milk sub of choice (I went with fresh coconut milk, but almond and hemp would both be delicious)

*I have included black pepper in this recipe as studies show it aids in the absorption of curcumin, the active ingredient in turmeric. I happen to be allergic to black pepper and so I omit it.

Make It Like this Slow and steady stove top method

Simmer herbs and water together for 10 mins.
Strain out and add honey and milk.

Or

Speedy  blender method

Boil water in your kettle and add to blender (a blender with gradual speed increase will reduce likely hood of pressure from steam of boiled water exploding out of your blender).
Add in spices and blend until smooth and unified in colour.

Strain out tea and add milk and honey.

Do you like Ice Tea?
